In many developing countries, the demand for water often exceeds the amount available, and poor quality restricts its use. The poor and marginalized, including women, children, the elderly, and minority ethnic groups, are most vulnerable to water shortages and water-related natural disasters. Successfully managing the impacts of climate change requires the ability to develop strategies to reduce this vulnerability.
IDRC’s Climate Change and Water program seeks to address this challenge. We provide grants and technical guidance to support research that will help communities better cope with the water-related impacts of climate change.
We also work to increase research capacity and local knowledge to help developing countries estimate climate change risks, and respond to them.
