Local solutions for local challenges

For four decades, we’ve worked in close collaboration with researchers in Latin America and the Caribbean to address the region’s most pressing development problems.

We’ve funded close to 3,000 initiatives directed and managed by local researchers and institutions. Their work has focused on identifying new technical, institutional, and policy solutions to meet complex challenges in local communities.

Our greatest area of concern in the region is supporting research that fosters social and economic equity. We focus on issues such as:
  • inclusive economic growth, innovation, and trade
  • equitable access to health and social services
  • sustainable use of natural resources
  • civil security and development
At times, the projects we support cross borders and boundaries, bringing together development practitioners in several countries. Their numbers—and their local knowledge—bring strength to our quest for lasting solutions.
