South Asia and China

IDRC's Regional Office for South Asia and China is located in New Delhi, India. It serves development researchers and institutions in nine countries.

The region is undergoing rapid and historic change. Economic growth has been unprecedented. Yet there are huge disparities in wealth within countries. Environmental degradation, intensified migration, and increased urbanization are straining infrastructure, fraying relations, and hampering development.

Governments are responding by seeking innovative policies rooted in research. Yet the strength of the institutions that would provide these policy options varies from country to country.

That’s why IDRC’s focus is on providing support that fosters growth with equity. We’re helping South Asians build the capacity they need to tackle these problems using their own resources.
